Hortense Camp

in the Wesleyan tradition

100 Years Celebration: 1904 - 2004

Eldis Kizer Parks

(As told by her daughter, Shirleen Parks Thomas)

Eldis, who is 88 years of age, was taken to the Wesleyan Camp Meeting as an infant, and as a small child, by her parents: Charlie and Emma Drury Kizer.  She recalls walking up and down the aisles singing, "I want to be a worker for the Lord" when she was a very young age.  Naturally, her parents were very proud of their little daughter, and first child, and I am sure were pleased to see her decision to work for the Lord at such an early age!  I must add that Eldis has been singing AND working for the Lord 'low these many years'.  And I have known of her love for the "Tabernacle at Hortense" all my life... as I am her daughter.
