Hortense Camp

in the Wesleyan tradition

100 Years Celebration: 1904 - 2004

Helen Sapp

(Wife of the late Rev. Henry Sapp)

I have many memories of the Hortense Camp Meeting.  It was the first camp I had ever been to, and since my husband's grandfather got it started, it holds a special place in my heart.  I went to camp meeting in 19434 for the first time, and it was a great experience.  I had not been raised in a Christian home, so to me, camp meeting was wonderful.

We ate lunch in the dining hall, or kitchen, which was downstairs in the two-story building.

Years later, Henry was working, so all five of our children and I camped in one of the first cabins that Henry's grandfather helped to build.  We enjoyed that very much.

I still enjoy camp meeting and I come as often as I can.
